A Holyrood magazine one day event for all those involved in the development and delivery of education policies in Scotland

It has now been 10 years since the power to make decisions about education was handed to Scotland and its administration and since then a number of major reforms and developments have been put in place. With a new Cabinet Secretary,  Curriculum for Excellence to be implemented by Autumn 2010, and continuing debate over teacher quality and delivery, Scottish education has entered a period of immense opportunity as well as challenge.

Educational attainment is recognised as an essential part of individual development and the engine of progression for society including the long term economic growth of  a country . With recent statitics showing Scotland has fallen behind English counterparts in educational attainment, the celebration of 10 years of devolution has also come with an analysis of where Scotland has benefited - is Scotland fairer fairer and smarter as a result of policies set from within? Where are we now and where are we going? What is the future for education in Scotland?

This Holyrood conference will examine Scotland’s education system 10 years on looking at fairness and equality issues in how education is currently provided; current and alternate models of delivery; as well as how to encourage innovation in the school education sector. It will also look at future scenarios in schooling and look abroad for any key lessons and examples of good practice.
